Estimated light
What reaches your location.
An estimate in lux, combining weather adjusted moonlight, sunlight or twilight and a small background level. On the watch, Garmin weather adjusts the moonlight contribution. The four bars give a quick reading of the same estimate.
Moon illumination
What the Sun lights up.
The percentage of the Moon’s visible disc that is illuminated. This reading is independent of whether the Moon is above your horizon.
Sunlight background
Where the day stands.
Day, civil twilight, nautical twilight, astronomical twilight and night follow the Sun’s altitude. Night alone does not mean moon free darkness.
The same story, on your watch.
Hatching marks moon free darkness on colour displays. Monochrome uses dense dots. The separate strip below the graph marks traditional solunar periods.
